Health Tested for Long-Term Quality
Health is a top priority at Terrier Town Tennessee. Breeding dogs undergo multiple screening and testing protocols. These tests reduce inherited disease risk and support stronger bloodlines. Wellness exams further ensure overall condition and readiness.
Comprehensive Health Screening
We perform multiple health evaluations on breeding dogs to reduce hereditary risk. Testing supports stronger joints, eyes, and genetic stability. Each screening step helps protect future litters. Preventive care is built into our breeding decisions.
Health Testing We Perform
Hip Dysplasia (rDVM, Not Registered)
Hip testing helps reduce the risk of passing down hip dysplasia, a condition that can cause pain and reduced mobility. Screening supports proper joint structure and long-term comfort.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing helps reduce the risk of patellar luxation, where the kneecap may slip out of place. This condition can range from mild discomfort to severe joint pain if left unchecked.
Eye Certification (CAER, Registered with OFA)
Eye testing helps reduce the risk of hereditary eye conditions such as retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma. These conditions may impair vision or lead to blindness.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the risk of passing down inherited diseases such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy and Von Willebrand’s Disease. This testing supports healthier bloodlines and informed breeding decisions.
Veterinary Wellness Exams
Our dogs receive regular veterinary wellness exams to monitor overall health and well-being. Routine care ensures breeding dogs remain healthy and physically sound.

Early Development & Enrichment
Beyond health testing, we focus heavily on early developmental practices that support confident, well-rounded puppies. From the first days of life, puppies receive structured stimulation designed to strengthen both mind and body. These early experiences help set the foundation for adaptability, resilience, and confidence.
Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) & Early Scent Introduction (ESI)
All Terrier Town of Tennessee puppies participate in Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) during critical developmental periods. ENS exercises are performed once daily from day three through day sixteen, a stage believed to be a period of rapid neurological growth. Although puppies are very young, they are highly sensitive and responsive during this time.
ENS was originally developed by the U.S. military to improve the performance of future working dogs and is part of the Breeding Better Dogs program created by Dr. Carmen Battaglia, an esteemed breeder, judge, seminar presenter, and AKC board member. ENS involves gently handling puppies one at a time while performing a series of five specific exercises designed to stimulate the neurological system.
Research and observation have shown several benefits in puppies exposed to ENS, including improved cardiovascular performance, stronger heartbeats, stronger adrenal glands, increased stress tolerance, and greater resistance to disease. Stimulated puppies are often more active, curious, and exploratory than non-stimulated littermates.
During the same timeframe, we also introduce Early Scent Introduction (ESI). This process helps puppies develop nose awareness and confidence by exposing them to individual scents. ESI enhances a puppy’s ability to identify and react to smells, creating a more alert, confident dog. These early scent experiences can benefit companion, service, and therapy dogs alike.
